FOOTNOTES:

1.         The Oliver Family in San Saba County: According to deed records filed in and recorded in the official public records of San Saba County; A.J. Oliver, M.D. Oliver, and J.K. Polk Oliver purchased 1280 acres of land in the James H. Baker Survey No. 84 on the Colorado and San Saba Rivers on February 7, 1873. (See attached copy of the deed from Vol. D, page 205 in the San Saba County Clerk’s Office.)

            A. J. Oliver, with his wife Ann, his mother Jane, and former Negro slave, “Aunt Sal,” moved to San Saba County in the spring of 1873.  His two brothers, Mark and Polk, came later that same year.  The three families settled adjacent to each other on the land they had purchased.  In 1877, the brothers donated land for a school, a church, and a cemetery.  (For more on the Oliver Family see San Saba County History, Vol. I 1856-1983, pp. 244-249.)

2.         The Harmony Ridge Community:  The community was given the name “Harmony Ridge” on the suggestion of John H. Kimbrough because of the harmonious way all the people worked together during the time they were involved in building the school which was located on a ridge of land donated by the Oliver brothers.  For more information on the Harmony Ridge Community see San Saba County History, Vol. I, 1856-1983, pp. 452-454.

3          The Patton Family of San Saba County:  James David Patton came to San Saba County with the Oliver Brothers, Andrew, Mark and Polk.  He helped them improve the 1280 acres of raw land that they had purchased along the Colorado River below the mouth of the San Saba River.

On June 8, 1879, James Patton married Lou Francis Lane, daughter of Rev. A. G. Lane, a circuit-riding Methodist minister.  In 1904 the Patton’s bought the Andrew J. Oliver original home place.  (See Vol. 43, p.50 of the San Saba County Deed Records.) They lived there for the remainder of their lives.  They are both buried in the Harmony Ridge Cemetery..
